Process Improvement
Workrite
Workrite is a Lean work-observation and line-balance tool for setup, capture, comparison, and reporting.
- Role
- Lead Product Designer
- Focus
- Lean workflow design, observation analysis, reporting interfaces
Problem
Lean teams needed a repeatable way to run work-observation and line-balance studies without paper forms.
Responsibilities
- Mapped workflow input to Lean study requirements and on-the-floor usability.
- Led the UI/UX direction for the full Lean work-observation platform.
- Designed the setup flow that starts a new project and defines the process context.
- Created reusable patterns for dense forms, tables, and step-driven workflows.
Workflow Foundation
- Led the UI/UX direction for the full Lean work-observation platform.
- Designed the setup flow that starts a new project and defines the process context.
- Created reusable patterns for dense forms, tables, and step-driven workflows.
Observation and Analysis
- Structured the experience around work observation, line balance, and cycle-time comparison.
- Designed views that made manual, machine, and walking time easier to scan.
- Kept the data-heavy screens readable enough for quick review in the field or office.
Training and Legacy
- Used training and SOP material to connect the software to the Lean methodology.
- Kept older manual views in the product story so teams could compare the new system to the previous workflow.
- Designed iterative updates that could evolve without breaking the main study flow.
Outcome & Impact
Lean teams could run work-observation and line-balance studies in one repeatable digital flow, with clearer comparisons and easier review.
- Turned field observations into reusable digital studies instead of paper packets.
- Reduced back-and-forth when comparing manual, machine, and walking time across studies.
- Kept improvement follow-up tied to the same sequence that captured the observations.
